THC Vape Cartridges are everywhere.
It’s pretty much impossible to know who’s smoking what at this point – “Is it CBD?” “Is it tobacco?” “Is it THC?”
Who knows?
But what we do know is that’s it’s relatively easy to make your own THC vape cartridges. Interested?
Chances are you’ve seen the millions of flavors at your local dispensary. But we’re interested in the homemade kind of flavor.
That’s what we’re here to show you today.
Before you get overwhelmed, just know – it’s not rocket science. But it does take a little bit of chemistry and creativity.
Some articles out there may show you how to take some cannabis concentrate and throw it into your vape but we’re going to try something a little more exciting.
We’re going to start with cannabis flower.
After reading through this, you will know everything you need to take local cannabis grows and throw them into your favorite vapes. And what’s more exciting?
This method can be done with THC or CBD.
Let’s take a look at the benefits of making your own THC vape cartridges.
Advantages of Making Your Own THC Vape Cartridges
The most important benefit is knowing what’s inside your cartridge.
With the amount of cartridges on the market, it’s impossible to know how all of them are being made and more importantly – what you’re inhaling.
For starters – the cannabis concentrates are most likely being made with solvent-based methods such as BHO or CO2.
You can check out our article on the difference – Rosin Vs BHO.
From there, plenty of the THC Vape Cartridges have unhealthy additives and toxic compounds being used to mix with the cannabis concentrate.
Some of those include:
– Propylene Glycol (PG or PPG)
– Vegetable Glycerin
– Polethylene Glycol (PEG)
Each of these popular thinning agents resulted in vapors that detected the presence of harmful compounds like formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, and acrolein.
When heated to high temperatures, these compounds can break down into microscopic polymers that can cause damage to lung tissue.

Now that we’re aware that some of these THC Vaporizers out there aren’t as great as they present themselves, it’s pretty obvious that making your own is a great solution.
By following the steps in this article, you can ensure that your THC Vape Cartridges contain organic terpenes and solventless cannabis concentrates.
Read on.
The Tools We Used Include:
– Rosin Press (For extracting cannabis concentrate aka rosin)
– Decarboxylation Capsule (For heating the terpenes and rosin to mix properly)
– Organic Terpenes
– Vape Cartridge (This method can be done with just about any vape cartridge)
– Syringe (For adding THC oil to vape cartridge)
Not only are we going to show you the way we did it, but we’re going to give you a few other options along the way.
Before moving any further, if you are starting with concentrates instead of flower – click here.
Step 1: Make Some Cannabis Concentrates
The Rosin Press Method
If you are starting from cannabis flower, like us, then you are going to need to extract a concentrate.
We do this by extracting solventless rosin using a rosin press.
What is a rosin press? A machine that applies heat and pressure to cannabis flower which extracts a solvent-free cannabis concentrate called rosin.
Benefits of a Rosin Press
A rosin press carries many benefits for users, giving them the ability to make their own solventless concentrates affordable, safely and easily. When making THC Vape Cartridges, a rosin press gives users total control and offers many advantages including:
– More Options (You have the ability to make your own THC Vape Cartridges from scratch using nothing but cannabis flower)
– Solvent Free (You can ensure that the concentrate you are using is completely solvent-free)
How To Press Rosin
Alright, so if you’re new around here, this part is for you.
Here, at NugSmasher®, we give everyone the opportunity to create their own solventless concentrates (rosin). When just getting started, it may seem a little complicated at first – but it’s really simple.
The steps are as follows:
– Load micron bag with material
– Insert parchment paper and place bag inside
– Press heated plates together
– Let sit for 90 seconds applying gradual pressure overtime
– Remove concentrates and collect
Or just watch this video on pressing rosin.
Let’s move on to the next step.
Step 2: Heat Decarboxylation Capsule
For this method, we’re making it as simple as possible.
Using our decarb capsule, making THC Vape Cartridges is going to be so easy, anyone can do it.
What is a Decarb Capsule?
Decarboxylation, for cannabis, meanings activating THC or CBD which is done through heat.
That’s why nobody gets high by eating raw weed but needs to be heated like baked edibles or vaporizing.
The capsule gives users the ability to activate any cannabis concentrate by placing it in the decarb capsule and allowing it to heat right between the NugSmasher® plates.
What are we using it for here?
In this situation, we are not activating the THC.
We are heating it up so that when we add the rosin and organic terpenes together, we can mix them into a nice liquid consistency.
A decarb capsule is not required.
Other Options
Mix the rosin and terpenes in a glass beaker that you can place into a lightly boiling pot of water.
Step 3: Mix Rosin and Organic Terpenes
In any method, you are going to have to mix your cannabis concentrate together with a thinner.
We used all organic and natural terpenes.
Advantage of Using Natural Terpenes
– Flavorful (Natural terpenes have many flavors available that taste great)
– Healthy (The terpenes we used were organic with no artificial flavors, PG/PEG or essential oils)
Disadvantage of Using Natural Terpenes
– Less Options (If you’re picky about flavors and want something specific, it may not be organic)
-Price (Natural and organic terpenes are much more expensive than other products on the market)
Other options
Things like wax liquidizer and other thinners can be used but are not organic.
Alright, let’s get back to the tutorial.
Time to start mixing.
Next, we add 1 gram of rosin to 1 ml of natural terpenes which gives us a 1:1 ratio.
This ratio is according to preference and more terpenes can be added to thin the rosin more – Or less terpenes for a stronger/ more potent vaping experience.
Add the rosin and terpenes to the corner of a heated decarb and begin stirring until the two combine into a completely liquid consistency after a few minutes of stirring and heating.
Like we said before, this doesn’t have to be done with the decarb.
You can also heat the two up together in a small flask by boiling at a mild temperature until you reach the same consistency.
Step 4: Use Syringe to Extract Mixture and Add to Cartridge
After your blend has transformed into a nice liquid consistency – it’s time to suck them up with a syringe.
Extract all of the THC oil and add it to your vape cartridge.
With this method you should have a completely solventless cannabis concentrate that has been mixed with natural and organic terpenes to achieve a quality THC oil.
This method can be used and added to just about any vaporizer cartridge.
And don’t forget!
The exact same process can be done with hemp to create a completely organic and natural CBD vape cartridge.
We hope you guys enjoy this method, and don’t forget to check out our rosin presses to get started making your own THC vape cartridges, today!
