What is the Ideal Temperature to Press Rosin?
The two most important elements to ensure a quality extraction pressing rosin are temperature and pressure.
So yeah, it’s pretty important.
The temperature you press your flower at will affect everything including:
– Color (Get that nice blonde color you’re looking for)
– Texture (Whether you’re going for a budder or shatter like consistency)
– Taste (Cooked rosin will taste burnt)
– Yield (Too low temperature will give you low yields)
It’s important to remember – Different products require different temperatures.
A few of the different products we will talk about that require different pressing temperatures are cannabis flower, dry sift and THCa.
Let’s jump right into it.
Cannabis Flower
This is the extraction that most of you out there are doing.
When beginning an extraction with a new strain, it is recommended to start at around 215 degrees with 1-2 grams.
After measuring the yield, start dropping down 5-7 degrees until you see a drop in yield and then return to the last previous temperature setting.
This is how you will find the ideal temperature for the maximum yield.
From our experience the yield is maximized for many strains at around 1000-1500 PSI per inch of material being pressed in the lower temperature range of 190-215 degrees.
It’s important to remember:
– Lower temperature will give you better product.
– Higher temperature will give you more return.
What’s next?
Hash or Sift
If you’re pressing hash or sift – You know it’s a little bit more complex.
Our recommended range for pressing sift or hash would be between 170-190 degrees.
The reason for the lower temperatures is that sift is a super sensitive product and you don’t want to overkill it.
The best recommendation is to do:
– A lower temperature than you would with flowers.
– A bit longer time than you would with flowers.
What else?
THCA
Alright, so if you’ve gathered the skills necessary to take on a batch of THCA – You know that it’s a quite tricky product to make.
Temperature is one of the biggest issues when making THCA, because going too hot at any point will ruin the product.
The key to making a batch of THCA, is to start low temperature (Very low) and work your way up slowly.
Our recommendation would be:
– Start at around 90-110 degrees.
– Slowly raise the temperature in increments of about 5-10 degrees at a time.
– Finish up around 250 degrees.
* Remember – The higher temperature you go up to the more potent the product will be.

It’s important to remember – Even the most experienced extractors are constantly changing and improving their methods.
There is no need to be nervous about failing the first couple times – Overtime you will be able to find what works best for you.
